The Challenge
One day here, one day there – that’s how it starts. Missing just 10% of the school year drastically impacts academic growth and student connection, but chronic absenteeism often goes unnoticed until it’s far too late. NYC Public Schools asked Malone Creative Group to help families and students see attendance differently. Our challenge was to create urgency without judgment and make one idea unmistakably clear: A missed day is more than a missed lesson. Every day matters.

The Approach
We shifted the narrative from a compliance rule to missed opportunities – missed relationships, missed assignments and missed chances to grow – driving the entire lifecycle from foundational research through full-scale production. The emotionally grounded campaign spanned broadcast TV, digital, social, OOH, print and community outreach. We also expanded the creative scope, strengthening the brand identity and developing Barty Backpack, an approachable, student-friendly character, to serve as the face of it all.

The Results
The campaign reframed attendance into a human story, turning data into a message for families citywide. By deploying multilingual assets across broadcast, transit and digital, we developed a unified, high-impact movement that firmly established every single school day as essential.
